Why Men Hesitate To Come To Counseling (Part 2)

What a big topic.... Many men hesitate to come and speak with a counselor for many reasons. In being in the field of counseling and social work for about 17 years, I've realized a few reasons why men hesitate to come to counseling.

It can be difficult for a man to go to counseling because it can mean somehow someway they "can't do it on their own," which can imply that they are a failure and weak. Men can not stand feelings of being a failure. We hate it, I know I do. Many men, in fact, need to feel accomplished in order to feel good about themselves. If men were to come to counseling and talk about their failures and weaknesses, it would open up wounds of doom and gloom with no way out. It can remind us that we are "failures and weak."

What a big lie my friends. Let's not allow popular culture, our past, or the enemy, to define who we are and how we operate. Jesus said we shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free. It is in our weakness, that God does his best work in us. Check out Isiah 40:29 where it says, "He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless." Speaking with a Christian counselor about your failures and weaknesses, can be transformational! God can turn our weaknesses into strength and might.

What do we know, we know God has a plan for your life. Do not hesitate to come to counseling. Real men dare to go to counseling. Be confident, be brave and reach out today and schedule an appointment.

Counseling is good, Jesus himself was reference as a

"Wonderful Counselor" in Isaiah 9:6.
