When it comes to counseling, the popular Psychologytoday.com website lists out 72 types of therapy you can find. We can gain much wisdom with so many perspectives out there on how to improve our mental health. Here are the 3 Reasons why Christian Counseling stands out amongst the other types of therapy. Let's jump in!

  1. Biblical Worldview - Christian counseling brings home a biblical worldview. How your counselor/therapist views the world will ultimately impact how they serve you. Finding a counselor with a Biblical world view is crucial. Your faith is important to you, your counselor should value it and encourage it.

  2. Nothing is Impossible with God - Christian counseling is important because with God, nothing is impossible! Doctors, psychiatrist and even counselors can give a diagnosis that can seem like a life sentence. Christian Counselors believe differently. Christian counselors believe that with God, the impossible can happen. We serve a God who still makes miracles!

  3. The very word Psychology - The Holy Bible is the greatest counseling book ever created. If we were to study the origins of the word psychology, we can trace it back to the Bible. Psychology is defined as the study of the soul. The word for soul comes from the greek word "psyche." The New Testament was written in Greek. Believer it or not, the greek word "psyche" is used 105 times in 95 verses in the New Testament.

We hope you enjoyed these three quick points as to why Christian counseling is important, consider these powerful words from Isaiah about the power of God!

Isaiah 61:1-3 NIV states:

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me,

for the Lord has anointed me

to bring good news to the poor.

He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted

and to proclaim that captives will be released

and prisoners will be freed.

2 He has sent me to tell those who mourn

that the time of the Lord’s favor has come,

and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.

3 To all who mourn in Israel,

he will give a crown of beauty for ashes,

a joyous blessing instead of mourning,

festive praise instead of despair.

In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks

that the Lord has planted for his own glory.
